NEBRASKA MIDDLE SCHOOL BOWLING FEDERATION

The purpose of the Nebraska Middle School Bowling Federation will be to provide middle school students with an opportunity to experience the spirit of team competition and community pride while participating in a sport they can enjoy for the rest of their lives.

A team-bowling program, available to both girls and boys, will bridge barriers of size, age and race, providing opportunities for young people who choose not, or may not be able to compete in, other sports. Bowling is a unique sport, providing its participants with unique challenges and test of skill.

Name of Organization:
The name of the organization shall be the Nebraska Middle School Bowling Federation.

Advisory Committee:
The Advisory Committee shall be composed of the NHSBF Commissioner, the President and Vice President of the NMSBF and two bowling proprietors. The Advisory Committee shall meet a minimum of twice per year, once before the start of the bowling season, and once at the conclusion of the bowling season. At least once per year, they will review policies and procedures and to re-evaluate and/or recalculate allowances (lineage, transportation, etc.).

Officers:
The President and Vice-President will be coaches from the participating middle school/bowling center, each serving a two-year term. The members of the Advisory Committee and the head coaches of each participating middle school/bowling center will elect the President and Vice President every two years. During the first year of operation, the Vice-President will serve a one-year term. Elections will be held annually at the conclusion of the season. Ballots for elections are to be turned in at the State Mixer.

GUIDELINES FOR THE NEBRASKA MIDDLE SCHOOL BOWLING FEDERATION

School/Bowling Center Classification:
Competition in bowling is permitted for students in 5th through 8th grades in all middle schools with a participating bowling center.

Registration Fees:
A. Registration fee: $25 – includes shirt
B. Tournament entry fee: $12 per tournament 
($8 lineage, $3.50 expenses, $0.50 awards)

District Boundaries:
The districts will utilize the NSAA legislative boundaries, if possible.

Team Structure:
A. Four-member teams; may be all boys, all girls or mixed.
B. A bowling center may sponsor an unlimited number of teams.
C. Rosters may change for each tournament.

Team Attire:
A. All bowlers are required to wear:
1. NMSBF shirt or similar colored shirts if NMSBF shirt not yet available.
2. Dress pants. No jeans or shorts.
B. No hats may be worn during competition.

Bowling Format:
A. All teams will bowl three regular games. 
1. Teams will have 10 minutes of practice, 5 minutes per lane, during which the coaches will enter their team lineup.
2. After the three regular games, the teams will be broken down into flights according to team series. The size of the flight to be determined by tournament management. (Ideally, flights of 6-8 teams).
B. Baker rounds. 
1. No practice before Baker rounds.
2. Teams will compete against each other using 3 Baker games.
3. Teams will move lanes after each game.

Absentees:
A. Absentee score will be 110.  Only 1 absentee score allowed per team.
B. If possible, the tournament director may combine teams who are short players to enable all bowlers to participate in the tournament.

Substitutions:
Substitutions will be allowed only in the event of an illness, injury or emergency.

Awards:
A. The top 50% of teams within each flight will receive patches.
B. The top Baker game will receive a patch.
C. The top Boys and Girls game/series to receive patches.

State Mixer:
A. This will be a season-ending fun event for all middle school bowlers.
B. Mixer format – All bowlers will draw for team members.
C. Pro-Am concept with “high school and or college" member to bowl with each team to help encourage high school bowling.
