Dear parent,
The
number one goal of the Nebraska High School Bowling Federation (NHSBF) is to
gain recognition for bowling from the Nebraska School Activities Association
(NSAA). We have been briefed on the process for making this happen, and made
our second attempt for recognition this fall. We didn’t make it, but this was
not unexpected.
Despite the big numbers of students participating in bowling
and the number of fans that come out to cheer them on, bowling is still a
relatively well-kept secret in
The main obstacle to gaining the support for NSAA
recognition is education. Historically,
the bowling stereotype of ‘cigar-smoking, beer-drinking, dangerous hang-out’
persona has become a hurdle we are facing.
We all know there is nothing further from the truth, yet it an image we
must change in the eyes of the athletic directors. This challenge we must overcome.
How can you help? If your son or daughter is a member of a
high school team, contact your local school administration. Talk with the activity director in your
school and/or the principal to let them know about your child’s experience as a
high school bowler. If bowling is the
one sport that your child is involved in, sharing that with an administrator
would be great. The schools are looking for activities that reach out to students who aren’t already involved in other
extra-curricular activities, especially a life-long sport such as bowling.
The NHSBF is committed to working with school administrators
to make bowling an NSAA recognized sport. Better solutions are found when
people are working together. As parents and/or interested individuals, we ask
that you address your school administrators with respect and as partners in a
venture that is win-win for everyone.

Thank you for your continued support of high school bowling
in
